Oh.my.god! What a ride! This drama, a continuation from the first season Guardian of the Spirit, is better than the first one! I could not blog it while watching because I was totally invested in this season. As I was with the first season. This saga is too good to be missed. If you are a fan of taiga fantasy, this drama is for you. But really, if you haven’t seen the first season, you MUST watch it before you start on this one. Technically, you can still skip the first season but I feel it sets a tone for this season.
Ayase is back again as the ever swift, ever smart Balsa, the bodyguard. The story starts years after the first season. This time, she is on the run, though. Back in the first season, Balsa was a bodyguard to Chagum. Chagum is the son of the New Yogo Empire’s Emperor. But in the current season, she continues to be a bodyguard but to a girl named Asla. This girl has a power beyond your imagination. She has the ability to summon the god of devastation. She inherited this power from her mom and this power has caused her mom her life. Now so many people want Asla dead and Balsa vowed to keep the girl in safe.
Meanwhile, on Chagum side, he was lured to conquer Sangal. The plan is to please his Emperor dad and prove to him that, as a Crown Prince, he can do wonders for New Yogo Empire. Not knowing that the Emperor sent him away just to expel him, Sangal suddenly falls under Trush Empire. Chagum is now captured by Prince Rauru. Rauru made a pack with Chagum. Chagum must kill the Emperor in order to set the people free from Trush attack. This dilemma is a gamble.
I am going to spare you the details of what happens next but in the end, Balsa came to the rescue again. After she got Asla settled in the safest place, she received a note delivered by Jin. The message was a request by the Empress to protect Chagum. She went back to search for Chagum. The reunion was bittersweet! I cheered my heart out! It was the moment I have been waiting for! And really, Balsa is a kickass gal! Another new kickass character introduced in this season is Shihana!
Unlike the first season, season 2 is 9 episodes long. But really, it is the best 9 hours of your time. Ayase as Balsa is a total gem for this show. Other characters are good as well. The third and perhaps the last of this saga will be aired this November. I really can’t wait to watch it. Balsa will be back as Chagum’s bodyguard. And perhaps she will help him get the thrown. I can’t wait!
