Just Watched: Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo

Okay… Kim Nam Gil is a romcom King! Hands down! He should have done romcom a long time ago. It was a pure joy watching him laughing, smiling, giggling and goofing around in Live Up To Your Name, Dr. Heo. This is seriously a new side of Nam Gil I have never seen. In fact, it is so refreshing watching him as Heo Im. He makes me love him even more!

And his counterpart, Kim A-Joong, is perfect in her role as Choi Yeon Kyung. This is my first time watching her and I immediately fall for her. Yes, I have a girl crush. And I couldn’t stop staring at her. She is beautiful. Perfect. And her voice is so alluring and soothing. I can’t describe this feeling but I look forward to hearing her voice. I’m surprised she doesn’t have many lead roles like other actresses. She’s talented!

Okay, let’s get back to the drama. It is a time-traveling drama but not the typical kind. The plots lack complexity like other famous time-traveling dramas like  Nine or Signal. Nevertheless, it remains entertaining because of Kim Nam Gil’s character, Heo Im. So Heo Im is an acupuncturist aka traditional doctor. He has a soft spot for helping the poorer citizens due to his status and his background. One day, he was summoned to the palace to treat the King’s migraine. Before he left his clinic, he saw an unrecognizable acupuncture kit. Without thinking ahead, he took it and left.

On the way to the palace, he denied an ill patient. By now, he was eager to get a recognition from the King and so he ignored his patients. Something happened when he was about to treat the King. His hand started shaking. The King and ministers got flustered and furious. The King ordered death upon Heo Im. He managed to escape but was tracked down by the King’s people. He was shot in the chest and fell into a river. But when he woke up, he found himself in a shallow river. And in an unfamiliar world. Heo Im woke up in Seoul. 2017.

In this world, he bummed into Choi Yeon Kyung. She is a heart specialist surgeon. She thought he was playing dress up. They parted but reunited again when Heo Im was about to treat a collapsed passerby and got stopped by Yeon Kyung. She does not believe in traditional medicine even though her grandfather is a traditional doctor. She called him crazy. He was shocked by the way she saved the person. From that on, he glued to her immediately.

Long story short, they started to learn and understand each other’s profession but more so coming from him to her than her to him. And in between learning, he got transported back to the Joseon time. One day, Yeon Kyung got threatened by her patient’s goons and Heo Im came to the rescue. While protecting her, he suddenly got stabbed. The two immediately transported back to Joseon. Yeon Kyung was shocked. She could not understand it while Heo Im immediately afraid because of the King incident. The two had to hide because of the way they dressed and because he is a wanted person.

Anyway, I do not want to be a spoiler even though there are enough spoilers already. The most important thing is that Live Up to Your Name, Heo Im is a must watch. The best part of the show is that it combines traditional and modern medicine. I am not into a medical drama but this show really made it interesting even though we all know nothing attractive about it. It is the story that is interesting. And the couple.
