Currently Watching: Doctor John

I spent my weekend marathoning Doctor John! I started the first four episodes in Malaysia but did not get to continue. It felt good to continue watching this drama. Ji Sung never fails me and he is the reason I am watching Doctor John. I guess he is the reason I can handle this medical drama. There were not many bloody scenes as I thought it would be; thank goodness I survive. Now before this drama, I know nothing about pain management. But now, I am very curious. Even got me google for it!

I know what you are thinking. Not another genius doctor drama again. I got that feeling people would think of this drama. And to confirm, yes – Ji Sung as Doctor Cha Yo Han is gifted. He is able to diagnose a person immediately even before a proper diagnostic is conducted on a patient. Ok, so that is something cool, right? But our introduction to him is unconventional. He was in a prison for manslaughter. Was the murder on purpose or accident? Somehow, the person who put him to jail really wants him to remain in jail for his “crime.” And the prosecutor added fire to fire. It was so unnecessary because of personal vendetta.

Doctor Cha means no harm. All he wants is a cure to his own illness. Unfortunately, no one knows he has CIPA (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain and Anhydrosis). He sees a doctor but not in the hospital he works in. He manages to keep it a secret until Kang Shi Yeong, his trainee doctor discovered it. One of the reporters manage to discover this secret and now the words are out. Many people want to end his career but a handful of doctors sees no harm in him continues to lead a group of residents and treats patients.

Doctor John just ended yesterday; I cannot wait to watch the final four episodes. I have a mixed feeling about the ending. Doctor Cha might lose his job. Doctor Cha might die. OR, he might not. Either way, I am still pleased with this drama. You can never go wrong with Ji Sung. His stellar performance is so solid and pure. This is the best medical drama I have seen lately. I love every single episode of it. And the topic of euthanasia is very sensitive to all of us. I personally am anti euthanize but I know at times, this is needed even on human.

I am not into the romance (slow-burning) between his character and Kang Shi Yeong much but I can assure you, it is lovely and trusting. The chemistry between them is strong. We know we can always rely on him and he brings out the best of his co-lead. Always. Only 32 episodes long, I highly recommend Doctor John. It is not purely a medical genre, but it is a drama about trusting one another – very heartwarming and charming.

    • Yes ma’am, at midnight. I cried buckets for the dad. We knew he’s dead yet I feel so sad for the girls. I thought the ending was a bit… slow and disappointed. I was hoping for more joy, you know what I mean?

      • Same, I felt sad for them but glad they got to all say goodbye and glad Cha was there to the end. I felt the ending was rushed but liked that the team work together in the end and I loved the voice over😭😭 Still, I understand, I wanted more joy

Sidenote: I loved all of Se young pants in the drama

        • Omg, I love her outfit too! I rated 9.5, I cut 0.5 for her haircut 😂. Fugly!

Oh, that’s right. It did feel the ending was rushed. I thought they’re trying to copy the Japanese version (which I haven’t seen it). Isn’t Ji Sung handsome though? Dang she get to kiss him 🙄🤪
