I have not been watching sageuk dramas for months and I purposely saving it for the best! For my Yoo Seung Ho *wink*. And the wait is worth my time! I am enjoying this drama from the beginning until now. I have been on top of it and seriously, I just can’t get enough of it. I do notice a few people dropping this show because they found it frustrating, tiresome and disappointing. Putting my bias aside, I just can’t find Ruler to be tiresome and disappointing. Frustrating? Perhaps. I would blame the writer for going around in circles. Also, it rocks people’s interest differently.
It just so happened that Scarlet Heart Ryeo was aired around the same time Moonlight Drawn by Clouds. Because it started airing two weeks later, my focus was mainly on the other drama. But to be honest, I usually don’t do this. Last time when Kill Me, Heal Me was aired, Jekyll, Hide and Me was airing too. I’m not a big fan when two similar genre or theme drama airing at the same time slot. Almost always one will get neglected. Fortunately for Scarlet Heart, I decided to pick it up because it has different story plots than Moonlight.
The show ended in early November. It ended with a bang! I was stunned. The ending was not as I imagined it to be. It feels incomplete. Someone told me to draw my own conclusion. I usually am good at that but for some reason, I was being stubborn and refuse to do so. I mean the show, despite the flaws which I really did not mind, ended abruptly as if it was edited by a newbie! The certain loopholes got me really frustrated and disappointed. The writer ran out of time! How could you run out of time? Certainly bad planning! If she wants me to watch her next work, she better work on planning and coordinating her writings well!
One thing to adapt from the original Scarlet Heart, but as a writer, she should have challenged herself and determined to outbid the original! Geez, this is just a lazy work. She wasted good talents’ time and effort! Prop to the PD for giving us beautiful cinematography; but his direction can be a bit choppy. His editors definitely should have done a better job in editing. Some scenes seemed choppy. Prop to the costume designer for giving us such beautiful costumes, though. I really adore them. I really love UI’s earrings. I wish I could keep them! Prop to the musical director for giving us a beautiful soundtrack! Till this day, I still listen to the OST.
Scarlet Heart: Ryeo suffered a lot! I blame the writer and some would blame her and the PD for bad editing. Either way, this show was once the most anticipated drama is now the most disappointing drama of the year. So glad none of the actors and actresses are newbies. Or else it’d be tougher for them to sell out on their next role. Sigh.. what a mess. Though I enjoy the pretty and the stories, I don’t enjoy what the writer did. I wouldn’t recommend this show if you have the eyes for every little flaw. If you are able to see through it, I don’t mind you watching it. It’s watchable but please keep your expectations closed to nothing.
By now I’m sure everyone has seen Splash Splash Love. If you have not already, what the hell are you doing here? Palli park yourself on your favorite couch, bed, corner, or whatever and start this uber cute web drama now!!!!! I mean it!!! This highly anticipated show really won so many hearts, including mine. I think I’ve seen episode 1 nearly 7 times since it aired. The show was too cute. My heart for Yoon Doo Joon went dugun dugun like crayyyyyyzy! Just thinking of him drives my heart speeding to 200 mph! He is insanely adorable and cute! And who doesn’t like his leading lady, right? Kim Seul Gi is utterly cheeky and cute and adorable I just can’t look at her enough! She is a natural actress and she brought the cuteness in her and Doo Joon. Gahhhh, so in love!Remember how I said earlier that I need another sageuk drama to complete my 2015 drama resolution? Voila, isn’t it great to end it with Splash Splash Love? I’m so happy that it did!!! And now all I can see is Doo Joon and Seul Gi as Lee Do and Gosam *giggle*. What a cute couple!Splash Splash Love is a perfect Christmas love story even though it has nothing to do with Christmas. Splash told a story of Dan Bi. She is a senior high school who is about to sit for her university exam. Sadly, she has math anxiety and really has no way of getting away with it. On the day of her exam, it was pouring hard. She worried for her exam so hard that she forgot her yellow umbrella in the bus. She keeps hoping that she could disappear. She was not ready to take the exam and felt she will not excel in it. She sat on a bench in a park and stared at the water puddle. She wondered if she jumps into the puddle, it will take her to somewhere else. She looked over the puddle, she saw and heard something through it. Her mind was set, she knew if she jumps into it, she will be somewhere else. She took a few steps back, ran and jump into the puddle! Voila and the water act as a medium and transported her to joseon time! Yeap, she time traveled to hundred of years to King Se Jong Yi Do era!
When she arrived in Lee Do (the King’s short name) side of the world, the place was facing a major drought. Dan Bi introduced herself as Gosam. In current world, Gosam means student but back then, it means eunuch. So Dan Bi was confused as one and since she appeared out of nowhere, she promised that she will disappear once it rain. Meanwhile, Lee Do began to feel smitten by his new Gosam. He has trouble with math and Dan Bi miraculously was able to solve the math problem he gave her. And engineering, architect, neuroscience, medical and astronomy problems! Come to think of it, she is GOOD!!!
King Lee Do and Dan Bi spent time together daily and they eventually fell in love. The hardest part is that she’s from a different era and started to miss her mom. He wants her to stay with him but she will only be his mistress, since he is married. These two love birds eventually separated because of her promise to return to her time when it really rain. And she did but lo and behold, she met a man that looks exactly like Lee Do! So we know how the ending would be… Gah, what a beautiful love story.Splash Splash Love not only a great web romance drama, the OST is also as awesome as the drama. Gosh, I love this drama so much I think I need another rewatch! I love every second of this show. It is so fluffy, so funny, so easy to watch. Really, if you’re depressed or need a quick pick-me-up, Splash Splash Love is to go to!
I’m giddy today. Twenty Again is making me super crazy happy! Wae? Because the main character, Ha No Ra, is taking charge of her life completely! Just like me!!!! Taking charge of my life! I’m all for girl power! Wow, Twenty Again is another awesome production by tvN! I know, I’m just super excited right now and I’m not even through the first paragraph! This drama is so wonderful and energizing I even tweeted Bel to watch it! Aaaaggghhhh and I just completed episode 8! I’m so giddy! Too giddy to even type this post! Just look at his face! Yeap, I just can’t help but to screen shot that face! He was shocked! He was surprised! He was proud! The man is proud!!!! And for the first time, in a loooooooong time, he’s in love again! *squee*
Was that too immature of me? I told you I was giddy! Omo, I think I’ve overused the word giddy too many times today! Who cares! Giddy, giddy, giddy!!!! *claps* *squee* Oh my god, I feel like I’m dreaming right now! *giggle*. What makes it even better? The fact that the lead actress, Ha No Ra took over her life back and said yes to her hub’s ultimatum divorce? Wow, I was blown away by what she said! Do it! Yes, go for divorce! It is not the end of the world! Take that, sucker!
And here is No Ra, the woman in control, who said (not her exact words but…) “Go ahead sucker, go ahead and divorce me. I will still go to school!” Muahahahhahahhahaha! I was clapping and laughing so hard! She said it so confidently that she needs no reinforcement (aka her bestie) to back her up this time. I believe her self-confident has skyrocketed so high even her sucker husband was blown away by it! After all, she is no longer the housewife he’s known for the past 20 years!
So now you know why am I so giddy? She’s in control! She’s in power! She finally snapped out of it! After years of being behind the scene, aka serving her manipulative-yet-acting-as-an-angel evil hub Professor Kim Woo Cheol, Ha No Ra finally decided to be in charged of her life by finishing what she had left in the first place: getting her life back and earn a degree. She decided to go back to school secretly even though her idea was shot down by her husband and son. No Ra and her husband have been living separately under the same roof for the sake of their son. And he’s been blackmailing her that if she ever crosses the separation terms that they’ve agreed on, she will lose her store (I didn’t quite get the name but I think it is the store that belongs to her grandma). On the surface, her husband did not portray himself as a typical bad jerk but eventually his true evil started to emerge when NoRa caught him with another woman. Her identity was revealed to us as one of NoRa’s professors but she doesn’t know. Yet. *wiggles brows*
And one of NoRa’s other professors is Cha Hyun Suk, her school mate who once had a major crush on her. But when he found out that NoRa was pregnant and got married to that sucker Professor Kim, Hyun Suk became extremely upset and left to Russia for his studies. NoRa moved to Germany with her husband so he can completed his studies while she ends up alone with their only son. Hyun Suk may have thought she had a great life because she did not come back for her grandma’s funeral but in reality, she couldn’t afford to go home at all. I have yet to know the reason as it was only revealed on episode 8 but she publicly thanked him for being at her grandma’s funeral. Her grateful towards him was beautifully done, in my opinion. I even shed a few tears… It felt really sincere and genuine.
Twenty Again is a 20-episode drama that debunk the myth that your life will end after divorce. I know how NoRa feels. I would feel lost as well had I not have a great support and to be honest, I too, will be as scared as her to move on with life on my own. Twenty Again brings a great message to us. We CAN move on after divorce. We WILL move on. What I love the most about this show other than great acting, except for….. the kids as NoRa’s son and his yoeja chingu, is the script. The pun. The punch. The lines are so daebak they really poke us at the right spot! Believe me, you will feel so good hearing it! I highly recommend Twenty Again if you have not see it. And if you are watching it, isn’t Twenty Again another must see drama for this year? *wink*
