Magical Radios, dramatic soldiers, blended families and lots of great friendships: 2016 a year end review

Hello again!!! I finally got the girls (Nelly and Erl *waves*) back for another combined post. After “W” I was afraid we would never work together again.

My Love for end of year list is humongous, I read every single one I see. So I was very excited to put this one together.

The rules were simple: 1. Any show that aired in 2016 2. It can be SK, Taiwan, China and Japan 3. only get 2 picks per question and one honorable mention ( I suck at following my own rules).  Lastly 4. Only shows that have finish airing. I have tons of love for mermaids, weightlifting fairies and goblins, but they can’t be in this list! Also keep in mind, these are our opinions, life would be boring all loved the same things. Lastly guys there may be spoilers so please beware. Let’s get it started!  Continue reading

Currently Watching: Cheese in the Trap

b3EgeXk1_ff898b_fHow did this happen? From being curious, 8 episodes later I’m still glued to Cheese in the Trap. This anticipated manga turned drama received so many buzz in my Twitter list. As Grace would say, I’m officially trapped. But being trap doesn’t mean I really, really, REALLY like it. In a way I do, but deep down I feel something is missing. I really can’t pin down what it is… Perhaps, the slow pace and quirky mood? I usually like this style of drama. But this time I am half sold *pouts sadly* E1VOVAjL_d7660c_fIt has nothing to do with the cast although Baek In Ha, one of the characters, is driving me batshit crazy. I’m not a fan of the actress (since It’s Okay, It’s Love) and definitely not a fan of her as In Ha. Her over dramatic acting skill says it all and it is grossing me out! Yes, I am taking it personally. Other than that, I wish this show will give more feels because I only feel it tiny bit. I want more. The whole thing is just too cold. *shrugs* maybe I have been pms-ing for the past 4 weeks?X3bApaAL_fda961_fBack to Cheese in the Trap, this drama is all on Seol the cheese girl. She’s nerdy and quirky yet super cute. I love her and her conversation in her head. Very fascinating! She started her university course again after taking a year break. Prior to her break, senior Jung and herself were never on the same page. His then girlfriend always picks on Seol. And one time at the party, Seol witnessed something that creep her out. A drink suddenly spilled onto Jung’s girlfriend and she got wet. But what shocked Seol was that Jung acted all worried over the spill but as soon as his girlfriend left for clean up, he broke a wicked smile. Seol happened to see that smile and Jung caught her staring at him. To me, that entire scene was insanely creepy. Obviously, Jung spilled the drink on purpose. Wae? Did he not like her? Or did he find it very thrilling to make someone frustrated and angry? Hmmmm interesting behavior… VLQ2woq3_157f24_fFast forward a year later, Seol was forced to enroll into a class under a professor she doesn’t favor with. And Jung happens to be in the class. She continues to avoid him whereas Jung continues to get closer to her. Seol became suspicious and started questioning his intention. Why is he oh-so friendly now? It turns out he approaches her with an intention to date. Of course, Jung hesitated in the beginning but now, our cheese is trapped under Jung’s spell. At the same time, Seol started to befriend Baek In Ho and found out that In Ho and Jung knows each other. In Ho advises her to beware of Jung’s sleek tricks and Seol keeps that in mind. Sadly, he never really gives her a concrete reason. Why? Why can’t he tell her everything?  D45Xym23_da58ad_fTo me, the whole drama is intriguing and fishy. Some speculate that Jung is a serial killer. Some say that he is a murderer. Or whatever. I am curious. We know his background. We know how powerful he is simply by watching him controlling In Ho and In Ha. How far can he be to control these two? And now I need to know whether is he a serial killer or just a mistaken identity? Park Hae Jin as Jung is really something. He somehow brought in his serial killer mindset from Bad Guys into this show. It is hard to read him which makes Cheese in the Trap very interesting. All I ask is that can he and Seol be a bit livelier?

Currently Watching: Bad Guys

Bad_Guys_(Korean_Drama)-p1

Oh yeah, another action drama added to my watch list! How exciting, right? Bad Guys started around the same time as Reset. I was disappointed by Reset and at one point, had this mixed feeling whether I should start Bad Guys. Sadly though, my real life hectic was too busy to consider it and went on with it. Wait, what? Yes, the busier I get, the more dramas I decided on watching. Hectic life resorts me to be a hermit and drown myself in dramas. Bad Guys though became a different kind of victim. I started watching it as it was currently airing but it suddenly fell on my ‘let’s put in on hold’ list because of my tiredness, health issue (yes, again!) and work life. This drama don’t deserve it as it is effing awesome! I thought Heartless City was awesome, Bad Guys is beyond awesome!

The story is quite interesting. Maybe I am too naive, I’ve never seen or heard a detective recruited criminals as part of his team. And this is exactly Bad Guys is about. Detective Oh recruited 3 criminals to support his work mission and ultimately his mission is to find out who killed his daughter. The criminals came from different criminal background and each equipped with their own “special” talent *giggles*. I can’t believe I said that but that is how they were chosen from. Based on their criminal talent! Wong Cheol was recruited based on his gangster background, Jung Moon *swooon for his good looks* for his intelligence as the youngest serial killer, and Tae Soo *swoooon for his hotness* for his ability as a contract killer. Detective Oh also included Inspector Mi Young as his support system. And to be honest, adding a female inspector is appropriate for feminine balance into a testosterone team, don’t you think? She puts them into a real perspective, adding some emotional and straighten up their crooked mind. Also, to be honest, woman inspector can be as bad ass as male too, right?

The missions are interesting. Some are recycled from what we have seen in any western or even local dramas, but some are fresh from the good ol’ Korean oven. But what makes this show super solid and interesting? Bad Guys really makes you feel like you are watching a real cop show. No hidden agenda, and no crazy stupid and wacko unrealistic bull crap. When you thought the show will go to a typical cop kdrama move, think again. The action is super awesome. Their ass kicking is out of this world good! Seriously, esp Tae Soo, he is so cool I can watch him beating those crooks again and again. No mercy and I like that! So where is Bad Guys going from here? Episode by episode, we watched them cleaning up the city’s dirty laundry as well as their own personal dirty laundry. I like that. And best of all, I like the violence they put into it.

BadBoys16

Bad Guys is only 11 episodes long. I’m currently playing catch up before my vacation starts. Well, technically, I’m on vacation *sticks her tongue out*. At episode 6, I hate to say this but… Why this show is only 11 episodes long? They made us begging for more because this show is very solidly written and acted. My wish is to see OCN consider making another season for this drama. Bad Guys is one of my favorite 2014 show even though I haven’t finish it. I don’t watch as many prime time dramas this year as I should and I don’t watch many weekend dramas as well. If you haven’t seen Bad Guys, please consider watching it. The action will get you going! I swear!

Currently Watching: Man from Another Star

You_Who_Came_From_the_Stars-p1So as y’all know, I couldn’t start watching new dramas released in December and January because of my work travel. It was painful. I wanted to cry and I was full of jealousy and rage at the same time. Having unable to start watching on the first week with all my friends, it really dampened my kdrama ego *steams coming out of ears* I want to be at par with everybody. When I got home two weeks ago, I couldn’t hold it any longer. My ego was killing me. I have two dramas in mind and I decided to start with Man from Another Star first. Like a vampire who finally got to drink blood to feel full and recharged, I am happy to say I AM FULL! *burps* Exsqueeze me *wink*

You_Who_Came_From_The_Stars-035

Man from Another Star unites two of my favorite star. I saw them together in The Thieves and I liked what I saw. They were very comfortable together no wonder they were cast together again for this drama. Two thumbs up from me! Plus, I love them both. And together, they produced one of a kind couple chemistry I haven’t seen in awhile. The squee between the two totally caught me off guard. I never expected that the female lead will be the one playing the dorky part and the male lead playing hard to get. Maybe I’ve seen too many dramas in the past I dunno… 2/3 of my life but i can’t recall any OTPs behaving this way. Please jolt my mind if you’ve seen similar OTPs as the one in here… Uhm, jjakkamman. I think I’m losing my mind *pulls hair* Wasn’t Master’s Sun OTP as quirky and funny as this one too? *shudders* molla molla I’m going nuts.

You_Who_Came_From_The_Stars-041

Amuden, Man from Another Star is definitely my current crack drama. The minute I landed back, all I could think was to start this drama. Imagine that I’m all caught up by now… Yes, I sacrificed my sleep for Kim Soo Hyun baby *giggles* The story is about an (handsome) alien who was left behind by his other alien friends 400 years ago and now his time to return back to where he was from is nearing. The alien, Do Min Joon is the perfect looking alien I’ve seen in a bunch. He doesn’t have a cone head! Daenghida! *wipes sweat* Min Joon has special abilities to stop the time, to travel in lightning speed, to hear conversation near and far, and to see things clearly than others. One day, he fell in love with a hallyu star, who resembles the girl he sort of had a feeling with 400 years back. The only different? Of course, the hallyu star, Chun Song Yi, comes with a big attitude. But because his time on earth is almost expire, Min Joon is conflicted and debated whether to pursue his love for Song Yi or to treat her coldly because he knew there is no point of investing and tormenting himself on her.

coll

So my friends and I are speculating how the ending would be… My take? He will go back to where he came from, come back to earth as a mortal person and marry Song Yi. Well, my very own fairy tale ending… I approve! *laughs* Anyway, two new episodes out this week and I’m dying to catch up with. I’m sure you are too if you are as current as I am. If you are not watching it…. I just don’t get you *shakes head* Why not? Watch it! It’s the bomb, yo!
