Currently Watching: Reunited Worlds

PdR0Rf

I was surprised to find out that Yeo Jin Goo is on this show. I just completed Circle when I started Reunited Worlds. Watching this drama was a pure coincidence because I was bored and at the time, I needed a buffer drama while watching Six Flying Dragons with Mari. So I thought why not give it a try and if I don’t like the first episode (which basically two 30-minutes episodes) I could simply move on. No strings attached.

Just Watched: Circle

5028_CircleTwoWorldsConnected_Nowplay_Small_FWJh4Hf

Circle was the most complicated drama I have seen this year. The reason I said it was that this drama was difficult to predict. Really drove me insane! I really could not piece out the puzzle until the last three episodes. Yeah, I think my brain was not able to keep up especially that in each episode, the story was told in two different years. The first 30 minutes focused on the present world while the last 30 minutes on the year 2037. It felt like watching two different stories in a drama. Thankfully, Orion and Drama Panda were available to explain exactly the story was.

Currently Watching: The Royal Gambler aka Jackpot

i

So I started my post and I forgot all about it… And since it was saved on my work laptop, I am not going to complain and decided to rewrite it. This post is definitely overdue. The Royal Gambler (aka Jackpot) has done airing and I placed this drama on hold because I wanted to finish blogging it before enjoying the last 5 episodes. I noticed that there are not many people on my Twitter timeline watching it. I wonder why… Is it because of Jang Geun Seuk? Or no one is interested in this drama? Hmmm… *rubs chin*

Jackpot has been on my radar ever since I found out that Jang Geun Seuk is in it. I’m fond of his acting so I wanted to watch this because of him. I have never seen him  in sageuk drama and I thought this is my chance to see him before he gets enlisted. Seriously, I’m so thankful that I am because the story is captivating and awesome. I’m not a history buff so what I saw, sadly, I believe in it. I should check the fact but too lazy to do so *shrugs*. Anyway, I’m entertained by Jackpot. Every time I watch the show, I pray that the show will not end. I find it so amusing and interesting. Plus, I have never seen this side of Geun Seuk before. He really put his pretty face aside and not afraid to dive down into dirt and mud.

This 24 episodes drama received an average rating of 8/10 on MDL. I am quite happy with that. The show did go a bit crazy and unrealistic midway but the performances by the casts remain top notch. Well, except for Im Ji Yeon. Her performance isn’t bad. I nicknamed her the second Jin Se Yeon *giggle*. Anyway, what I dislike about Jackpot is the repetitive plots. I know this is common among period drama but you know what, these directors need a wake-up call. Why? Repetitive plots bore us to death and it is not only waste our time, it resulted to some of us to drop the show! C’mon, PD-nim… Learn from it!

*clears throat* now that’s out of my system, let’s focus a bit on the story. It was sad in the beginning. Dae Gil had a tough life. He was born premature and got thrown out of the palace because the King believe he was the cause of drought and believed that the boy is not his child. The Queen’s ex-husband took Dae Gil and raised him as his own thinking that Dae-Gil IS his own son. Pardon me if you got confused a bit because I totally skip the history between the Queen, the King, and the Queen’s ex-husband. Dae Gil life went mayhem as he was raised by his dad as a gambler. He won a few but lost too many. Dae Gil continuously challenged by Lee In Jwa. Dae Gil had to gamble his life and realized that In Jwa is correct all along. But deep down, he doubts In Jwa’s intention but unable to dodge him. For now.

Meanwhile, In Jwa resented the King. Why? He believes the throne is his after what happened to his family. He uses Dam Seo and brainwashed her into thinking that the King caused the death of her father. In Jwa has a purpose. He keeps Dae Gil closer to him because he knows the boy’s royalty background. Right now, the combination of raising Dam Seo as an assassin, starting a fire between Dae Gil and Prince Yeo Ning, and keeping Dae Gil under the dark is In Jwa’s weapon to achieve his dream. To kill the King Suk Jong.

See? What did I tell you? This show is fascinating had the writer and PD did not screw it up with repetitive and silly plots. But I would still recommend Jackpot. The story is very engaging. The performance is superb. The OST is wonderful! The cinematography is beautiful. To hear this from a saguek hater, Jackpot really is amazing. Again, I have to emphasize that Jang Geun Seuk’s performance is unbelievably great! The show may make no sense to you, so please be prepare if you decided to watch it. Overall, I highly recommend The Royal Gambler. *wipes sweat* Now if you excuse me, I’m going to finish this show. If you don’t hear from by Wednesday, you know I’m somewhere in the corner crying… T____T

Taking A Dare! -Asian drama Style Day 6 to 10!

30 day challenge

We are back with PopDramatic‘s challenge again! I hope you enjoy our comments! And yes, we are bunch of serious watchers here!

Day 6: Your favorite older actors/actresses.

Me: I used to have a crush on Kang Nam Gil. He’s the perfect father figure for Oh Ha Ni on Playful Kiss (yes, I mentioned PK again!). But now I don’t have a crush on him but still enjoy him on my mini screen. But if you ask me for an actor older than me? It would be oppa Lee Seo Jin! No doubt in my mind… Mr. Dimples!!!! Wait! Ji Jin Hee oppa and Lee Sang Yoon! Ok, I should stop. I could add more!!!

Mari: Older??? like how old? If we are speaking older older, I would have to say Lee Soon-Jae, I adore him in many shows and then just full love him once I watched him be grumpy in Grandpas Over Flowers. Yes, he can be a grumpy old man but there’s a reason to it all. He wants to get things done! For a female, I would have to go with Kim Soo-Mi because she’s a doll! I never not liked a character she’s played in any show she’s been on.

Erl: I had to read this question over and over and then, in the end, I ask Nelly what does older pertains to. Are the actors that we literally can call oppa? (e. g. Ji Jin-hee) Otherwise is it the really seasoned older actors? (e. g. Lee Soon-Jae) Since I’m still confused, I’ll just put it like this: Favorite Oppa (s) – Ji Jin-hee,  Lee Seo-jin, Lee Beom-soo. Favorite Eonnie (s) – Choi Ji-woo, Kim Hee-ae. Favorite Older Actor (s) – Lee Soon-Jae, Jung Dong-hwan. Favorite Older Actress (s) – Kim Mi-Kyung, Youn Yuh-Jung.

Sada: Ko Hyun Jung (not too old), Kim Hae Sook, Kim Sang Joong, Bana Hyo Jung, Kim Mi Suk, Lee Sung Min…I am keeping this list short.

Day 7: Your favorite child actors/actresses.

Me: I like Kim So Hyun. She’s growing up to be one talented child actress. But  another child actress that missed the spotlight is Kim Hyang Gi. Where is she? The last drama I saw her in was The Queen’s Classroom with Kim Sae Ron, another superstar child actress. On the child actor side, besides Yeo Jin Goo, I also like Park Gun Tae. Hehe… too many favorites!

Mari: You can’t make me choose!!!!!!!!!!! I love them all! but if I had to go based on talent I would say Kim So-Hyun for female and Yeo Jin Goo for male. The rest I adore but acting chops levels on these two are amazing!

Erl: Well, since kids nowadays grow up too fast for poor old me to track, this is a bit tricky. Nevertheless, there’re these kids that are my absolute current favorite. For the child actor, it’s Lee Do-Hyun, I seriously adored the child in Prime Minister and I and Master’s Sun. For the child actress, it’s Kim Yoo-bin mostly because I’m a sucker for everything really, really cute.

Sada: This was very hard to answer because all kids I liked and support are grown ups now. Here are some new kids who look promising: Baek Seung Hwan, Kang Han Byul, Kim Dan Yul.

Day 8: Worst case of Second Lead Syndrome  you’ve experienced.

Me: I don’t recall if I have any…. Hmmmm *rubs chin*. I really can’t. Wait! Kang Shin Woo from the You’re Beautiful! I was head over heal with him! Sigh…

Mari: so many, I’m famous for constantly shipping the wrong couple. The most recent one was Kong Tae-Gwang in “School 2015” and everyone has been witness to the huge breakdown I had after “Reply 1994”  and my love for Chilbongi

Erl: My worst ever case of Second Lead Syndrome was Reply 1994 (Answer Me 1994), that was the worst, ever. God, the agony! I cried literally and figuratively watching that drama and my poor heart still aches for Chilbong until now. *sigh*

Sada: Worst was in The Greatest Love, I can’t describe how wonderful  PilJoo was. Can I say Scheduler in 49 Days? Answer Me 1994 and Five Fingers, good boy & bad boy. Love Buffet, this drama is still puzzling to me…wae not Aaron?!!!!! Sunny happiness, because bro really deserved a panda hug.

Day 9: Drama scene that broke you.

Me: I can’t particularly remember it very well but it was with the young Yeon Woon and Dong Soo in Warrior Baek Dong Soon. Their bromance was off the chart! Dong Soo’s perseverance and determination in training with Yeon Woon was daebak!

Mari: there’s two that come to my mind in an instant. *spoilers!!!* The last episode of “Mama” where the older Han Geu-Roo reads a letter to his mom and thanks her for all she did for him. He is reading the letter in the same place we first meet them when he was a little boy. The tears would not stop flowing. Then the scene in “49 Days” where Song Lee-Kyung & Scheduler are together and he remembers what happen. The motorcycle accident, the ring.. ahhhh I can’t I’ll start crying again.

Erl: That confrontation scene in Flower Boys Next Door. *spoiler alert* Cha Do-Hwi (Park Soo-jin) wanted to know why Go Dok-mi (Park Shin-Hye) was being a recluse plus she wanted to “explain” why she did what she did in the past. She said she was not as strong as Dok-mi, she needs attention, friends, etc., then Dok-mi said, “Was I not enough? Even though it was just the two of us, I was okay with just you. Better than having ten or hundred other friends, I was perfectly happy with just you.” Yeah, just pass me the tissue box will you?

Sada: Tree With Deep Roots, ending…I cried like a baby. 49 Days, every episode of that drama was sad and packed with emotions, I can’t isolate anything…drama stands for itself. The King 2 Heart, the death of the king, LSG scene at the bridge…this drama had so many amazing emotional portraits it’s hard to choose just one.  What’s up, funeral, once again, starts and ends with OMSuk. 14 Days, ending, which will erase from my memory. I must put  Woman  here too…when she found she has cancer and everything that drama is, it deserves to be here. So many left out dramas…sawwy.

Day 10: Drama pairing that you didn’t think would have any chemistry, but they did.

Me: I recently started Lucky Romance and was skeptical on the pairing of Ryu Joon Yeol and Hwang Jung Eum. I thought they wouldn’t have the chemistry we are looking for. It turns out I am wrong. They are great together! Another unexpected pairing that has amazing chemistry, on and offline, is Ahn Jae-Hyun and Gu Hye-Seon. I may be biased but I enjoyed Blood so much! Another pairing I was skeptical was with Heart to Heart’s Choi Kang Hee and Chun Jung Myung.

Mari: Lee Bo-Young & Lee Jong-Suk in “I Hear Your Voice” and since they are now one of my favorite pairings, obviously I was wrong! King of puppies works with everyone

Erl: I would have to go with Ahn Jae-Hyun and Ku Hye-Sun in Blood. I was really skeptical of the pairing but look where this pair is now.

Sada: Yoon Eun Hye & Kang Ji Hwan (Lie To Me), I had my doubts…but they proved me wrong…Cola kiss. Jung Woo Sung & Kim Bum (Padam, Padam) they had to be here. Come on, what are the odds. Ji Hyun Woo & Yoo In Na (Queen InHyun’s Man) no-one saw this coming, right?! Beside OTP amazing chemistry, good story, fantastic dramas overall, we had true love in the end. Didn’t last,  but still proves sparks we saw. Goo Soo & Lee Yo Won (Empire of Gold), never had a kiss but had brain “cookies”. Electricity around this couple lightened the room around them. Lee Bo Young & Lee Jong Suk  (I Hear Your Voice) enough chemistry to make Ji Sung oppa jealous, Jang Hyuk & Jang NaRa (Fated  To Love You), yey for the Snail couple. Absolute  love!!!!  Ha Ji Won &Lee Seung Gi absolutely stunning couple. I don’t know is it HJW ability to adapt or LSG to grow up, but they were amazing as the King and Queen.  Ji Sung & Hwang Jung Eum (Secret), don’t know what to say here…who didn’t see it, it should. P.A. Yoona & Park Seo Joon. Oppppaaaa!

Song of the Moment: If The Time Stop

71NNWRK1_3a8b6a_f

My Jackpot (aka The Royal Gambler) review will come up soon but really, I can’t help but sharing with you my infatuation for this song! His voice!!! I want to make out with his God-gifted voice!!! Seriously, his husky and raspy voice is so damn sexy!!!!  I have to admit, each time I watch this drama, I look forward to this song. Park Wan-Kyu is the singer and this is not the first time I fall for him. I began to know him through Goddess of Marriage.  He was in that train wreck drama as the hippy rocker and also contributed his talent for the OST. I did not blog for that song but I did for The Princess’ Man OST titled One Day of Love.

If The Time Stop adds a powerful punch to Jackpot. Wan-Kyu’s raspy voice did not disappoint me. The feels that he gave powered by strong tune really gives me goosebumps. This song definitely fits this adventurous and suspense drama. If you have not seen it, I think it is about time you watch it. All the songs are amazing but If The Time Stop is my personal favorite. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do *beams*.

Just Watched: Helter Skelter and Shoot My Heart

I obviously had some times to catch up on movies. I have guests around and I think drama watching can be time consuming so I opted for movies instead. Needless to say, I made the right decision. Yesterday, I saw two extreme movies. From one psycho movie to another. Surprisingly they weren’t that bad. I enjoyed it very much. So here are my short reviews for the movies I saw:

Helter Skelter

39239484682484554_7683cdcc_f

This mature rated Japanese movie is not for everyone. Helter Skelter is a very disturbing movie. Super twisted. Super dark. Super wacko. But surprisingly good! I really did not care about the nudity or sex portrayed in this 2 hour movie. What I really care was the messages it tried to bring. Beauty can be the cause of your own death. And exactly happened to Lilico. A famous supermodel that addicted to cosmetic surgery ends up losing her sanity when her body began to break down from the after effect of too many work done to her body. She started taking her anger from her manager to her agent and to her manager’s boyfriend. Her agent sent her back to the plastic surgeon to show her scar on her face. Her plastic surgeon promised to make her back to “normal” again. While this is going on, an investigation took place where sudden death from the after effect of surgeries and illegal organ donation in the medical practice. Are these cases related to Lilico? As her agent said “except for her eyeballs, nails and pussy”, Lilico is all plastic! Yeap, I said that! *giggle*. WARNING: DO NOT WATCH IT WITH KIDS AROUND!

Shoot My Heart

M4PV7WzL_79e932_f

The next movie I saw was equally crazy yet entertaining. Shoot My Heart is an outstanding diary-like movie told by Soo Myung. He was put into a mental hospital when he found his mom dead in the bath tub at home. Her suicide caused him schizophrenia developed from his guilt towards his mom’s death. In the hospital, he met a wacko Seung Min. He was hospitalized for just because of his family. They both knew they are in the wrong place so they decided to make attempt to escape.

Shoot My Heart is a heart-wrenching movie and very touching to your inner soul. If you have the opportunity to watch it, please do not hesitate. It is worth 2 hours of your time.

Currently Watching: Orange Marmalade

Orange-Marmalade-Poster1Hmmmm, I really like the name. And who does not like orange marmalade on a wheat toast, right? But heh, we are not talking about that. We are talking about webtoon turned drama on KBS2 that started airing on May 15. Yes, this drama. Orange Marmalade. Before I started it, I thought I would give the webtoon a try. I read up to ep 20 something… The verdict? Too slow. I quit and hoped that the drama would be better. I know an adaptation from a webtoon to a drama can be a hit or miss. Writers often took what’s important, retained good characters and moved on with the story. I have seen a lot of webtoon dramas and most of them are quite nice. And I usually don’t read the original toon so my perspective came directly from watching the drama itself. But this time, I am a bit biased and read the toon instead. *shakes head* It’s a big mistake on my part and I shouldn’t have read it! Whacha ma called it? Peer pressure? Something like that! *hides in the corner*

041303-e1428894488870

Thank goodness I stop sooner because first of all, my expectation was set up really high when I started watching Orange Marmalade. Yeah, the drama is completely off from the original and now it is heading to an unknown territory. Well, I’m not sure whether the next part of the drama is as written in the toon but for all I know, and my gut feeling says so, it is going downhill. Wae? The development of characters. Wait… what development? This drama moves too fast it skipped the formality of who’s who and what’s what! The writers expect the viewers to know everything! Hell, not everyone read the manhwa and even for me, what makes they think we would understand the story fully? First of all, the target audience for Orange Marmalade is mostly teens and young adult. If the stories are hanging and hoping that these two groups of watchers would get it, the writers should think again! And c’mon, it is a vampire drama and it supposed to be mysterious, fun and full of admiration! What is this I’m watching? And at one point, this drama is turning into Monstar! Why????

033102

I’m not going to dwell over how disaster this drama is with you. All I know is it made me utterly lost and somewhat disappointed with the plots. Yeo Jin Goo is a great cast as Jae Min. I’m not even comparing him to cold Jae Min in manhwa. They are two separate personalities. But sadly, I feel that Jin Goo is wasting his time. He has so much potential and this drama is a waste of his mature talent. Seol Hyun isn’t bad. I’ve seen her in Ugly Alert. Though she still needs much coaching in acting, she is definitely improving. But as Ma Ri, I’d rather keep her from talking to be honest. Yes, I’m being picky. Jong Hyun as Shi Hoo is another important character in this drama. Also another waste of talent. *shrugs* I feel sad already…

fullsizephoto595647

I made the right choice of not watching Blood. I should have made the same executive decision by not falling for Orange Marmalade. Too bad I did. *head banging* And after 4 episodes, it is now officially dropped from my watching list. The preview for episode 5 seems like the drama is moving to a different period of time. The writers are using Jin Goo to lure audience again… What’s the point? I am shallow but not THAT shallow. Urgh… If you share the same sentiment as I am, I think it is time to drop this disaster drama. For those who can bear it, carry on… And good luck!
